Autogate Gate Dropped – Gate Repair and Welding Services

A customer recently contacted Dr Autogate because her autogate had started to drop and become difficult to open and close. At first, the problem was not very obvious. The gate was still working, so she continued using it as normal. But after some time, she noticed that the gate was getting lower and was no longer sitting properly.

When the autogate opened and closed, the gate was also starting to rub against the ground. She was worried that if she continued using it, the gate might eventually become worse or even fall.

The Gate Was Getting Lower

When we arrived and checked the gate, we found that the problem was not simply the autogate motor. The gate itself had dropped. The hinges and the steel around the hinge area were no longer holding the gate properly. Because the gate is heavy, even a small problem with the hinge or supporting steel can cause the whole gate to slowly move down. This can also affect the autogate motor.

When a gate is no longer in the correct position, the motor has to work harder to open and close it. Over time, the gate may become slower, make more noise, or stop halfway. The customer initially thought that she might need to replace the whole gate, but after checking the condition, we found that the gate could still be repaired.

We carried out the repair at the customer’s house. The damaged section around the gate hinge was repaired, and the weak steel was reinforced with new steel.

We also carried out the necessary welding work and adjusted the gate back to the correct position.
After the repair, we tested the gate several times.

We checked that:

The gate was sitting at the correct height
The gate could open without rubbing against the ground
The hinges were holding the gate properly
The gate could close properly
The autogate motor could operate without unnecessary strain

Once everything was checked, the autogate was working properly again.

Why Should You Repair a Dropping Gate Early?

A dropping gate may look like a small problem at first, but it is better not to ignore it. If the gate continues to drop, the hinges and supporting steel may become more damaged.

For an autogate, the problem can also affect the motor and other parts because the motor is trying to move a gate that is no longer properly aligned.

Some common signs to look out for include:

Gate becoming lower on one side
Gate rubbing against the floor
Gate difficult to open manually
Gate moving slower than before
Unusual noise when the gate opens
Gate not closing properly
Hinges looking bent or damaged
Rust around the hinge and welding area

If you notice these problems, it is better to have the gate checked before it becomes a bigger repair.

You May Not Need a New Gate

Many homeowners think that a damaged or dropping gate means they need to replace the entire gate. This is not always necessary. If the main gate structure is still in good condition, we can check whether the problem can be solved by repairing the steel, welding the damaged area, replacing the hinges or adjusting the gate. Every gate is different, so we normally check the gate first before recommending what needs to be done.

For this customer, there was no need to replace the entire gate. The problem was repaired and the gate was adjusted back into the correct position.
